On July 06, Mayor Dean Esposito, Economic Development Director Shay Nagarsheth and the City of Danbury announced that the second round of the ARPA Small Business Assistance Program (SBAP) will open on July 1, 2023, and conclude on August 31, 2023. The City of Danbury SBAP program will provide limited, one-time direct financial assistance to eligible small businesses recovering from the pandemic.
“I know that small business is the backbone of the economy in our city, and the City of Danbury ARPA Small Business Assistance Program will inject $325,000 to these businesses to continue to deal with the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. I want to thank our Economic Development Director Shay Nagarsheth for his dedication and hard work, and serving as a resource for our business community,” said Mayor Dean Esposito.
Local small businesses can apply for a share of the $325,000 American Rescue Plan Act COVID-19 federal relief funds earmarked for this program. Grants of up to $5,000 will be available, depending on the needs of the business and intended use of the money, which will be outlined in application.
Qualifying for-profit businesses must be in Danbury, have 10 or fewer employees, have less than $1,500,000 of gross revenue in 2019, and be independently owned and operated.
City officials are looking for applicants to, “demonstrate that such funds will be used exclusively for future expenditures that will add value, quality, desirability, and/or attractiveness to (the) business and community.”
Applications will be available online on the city's website, and will be accepted between July 1, 2023 through August 31, and must be submitted via email to sbap@danbury-ct.gov.
Businesses that are not eligible include residential or real estate businesses, elected officials and their immediate family members, or corporately owned or operated franchises.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee including the Director of Economic Development, representatives from the Finance Department and Tax Assessor’s Office, and a member of the Mayor’s Office. Recommendations will be forwarded to Mayor Dean Esposito for final approval.
