WCSU’s spring 2023 Coffeehouse and Best Darn Jazz Club events announced; all are open to the public

DANBURY, Connecticut — Western Connecticut State University announced its spring semester 2023 Midtown Coffeehouse and Best Darn Jazz Club schedule, and the public is invited to attend to relax and enjoy evenings of music, performances and more, as well as share their talents.

The Coffeehouses are held most Thursday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Wolves Den, located in the lower level of the university’s Midtown campus Student Center, 181 White St. in Danbury. The Coffeehouses include open mics (sign-ups start at 7:30 p.m.) and on some nights there are special performers. The events are free, and complimentary snacks and beverages are offered; donations are accepted. For more information, go to www.wcsu.edu/coffeehouse/.

Upcoming Coffeehouse dates and performances are:

  • Feb. 9: WCSU Student Jazz Ensemble
  • Feb. 16: All-Night Open Mic
  • Feb. 23: Bella Canto, a WCSU student treble range (soprano or alto) a cappella ensemble with a repertoire including music of all genres
  • March 2: Comedian Nico Carney
  • March 9: TBD
  • March 23: Ethan Fiske and the Big Love Band
  • March 30: TBD
  • April 13, 20 & 27: Open Mic, feature acts TBD
  • May 4: Open Mic, feature act TBD

Additionally, WCSU hosts its Best Darn Jazz Club in the Wolves Den, another event free to students, faculty/staff, alumni and the public. Along with live jazz music in an intimate, club-like setting, light snacks and a cash bar with wine and beer for those 21 and over are available. The  Best Darn Jazz Club events are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 and March 31. The Malin Carta Quartet, featuring WCSU alumni, and the Elijah Atkins Quartet, comprised of current WCSU students, will perform on Feb. 24. Both quartets feature saxophones, guitars, bass and drums.
