Corey Alston is a profound story teller who has artfully crafted a many beautiful baskets since he was a teenager. Hear his amazing story about Sweetgrass Weaving and how this art form is kept alive and has improved over the decades. Alston will demonstrate how to weave while exploring why the Gullah Geechee heritage corridor in South Carolina is so unique.
Corey Alston is one of eight recipients in the 4th Annual Black History Banquet in Charleston, South Carolina. He owns the company called Gullah Woven. He was chosen as the weaver for the 2018 Sweetgrass Culture Arts Festival.
