Tuition fees for Connecticut residents attending Western Connecticut State University rose by 4.8% in the 2022-23 school year, based on the latest figures available, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Connecticut residents paid $12,345 to attend the public four-year university this year, which is $564 higher than the $11,781 charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident students were charged 104.4% more than in-state students in 2022-23, with tuition amounting to $25,239. This reflects a 0.2% increase from the $25,185 tuition fee in 2021-22.

Approximately 70% of the undergraduate student body at Western Connecticut State University consists of Connecticut residents, while about 30% come from other states.

Data indicates that 84% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled in 2022-23 received some form of student financial aid. A total of 388 students were awarded grants or scholarships amounting to $3.1 million, and 355 students obtained student loans exceeding $2.3 million.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
